Enumclaw High junior Erica Bonthius finished seventh at the Class 3A state swim and dive championships Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
After an impressive preliminary series of dives that left her sitting in fourth place. Bonthius finished with 302.95 points, earning her a medal and a place on the podium at the end of the evening.
She was 13th in the 2009 state championships.
“Erica was steady the whole way,” coach Steve Bannerot said.
Against 24 of the top divers in the state, Bonthius cruised through her eight preliminary dives Friday night, surviving two series of cuts. Saturday, she competed with the Top 16 divers in the final three dives.
Veteran diver Celi Pinczower of Juanita won the competition with 404.30 points. Kennedy’s Ashley Knox and Paige Greely were second and third respectively.
“She did great,” Bannerot said. “She’s a great competitor. She’s not intimidated.
“She had by far the biggest fan base,” he said of Bonthius cheering section, which was filled with family and fellow Enumclaw High cheerleaders.
