The Enumclaw High boys swim team got the season off to a rip-roaring start Thursday, racing to several district times and a state time during a 136-32 South Puget Sound League 3A win over Bonney Lake in Sumner.
Bennon VanHoof picked up where he left off in February, grabbing a state-qualifying time in the 100-yard breaststroke with a winning 1 minute, 03.92 seconds. The EHS sophomore also set a district-qualifying time in the 200 individual medley of 2:13.89 and was part of the Hornets’ district-qualifying 200 medley relay with Thomas Petersen, Gabe Sales and Will Cooper. The foursome won in 1:48.39.
EHS’s second relay of Travis Culp, Logan Ross, Braden Dedrick and Sam Horn also qualified for districts with a time of 1:57.75.
The Hornets’ 200 and 400 freestyle relays earned a lane at the district meet with times of 1:41.43 and 3:55.03, respectively.
VanHoof, Ross, Sales and Zach Petersen paced the Hornets’ 200 freestyle relay, while Cooper, Zach Petersen, Culp and Thomas Petersen rounded out the 400 relay.
Cooper, a sophomore, was a double district-qualifier in the 100 butterfly, 1:01.66, and the 500 freestyle, 5:23.04.
Senior Zach Petersen scored a district spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.79, while sophomore Thomas Petersen will head into the district meet in the 100 backstroke after posting a time of 59.83.
White River
The White River High boys 200-yard medley relay earned a spot at the West-Central District 2A meet Thursday in Sumner.
The Hornets, who compete with the Enumclaw program but are scored , separately as a South Puget Sound League 2A teamhave four swimmers.
Seth Rickard, Elijah Cory, River Cory and Pierce DeHan posted a district-qualifying time of 2:02.75.
