Sumner High’s Connor Powers-Hubbard, Trent Powers, Zane Gustafson and Brandon Richison powered their way to an 11th-place finish at the state Class 3A swim meet Saturday at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.
“The boys stepped up and swam hard at the state meet,” coach Dana Powers said. “Our relays really came to swim. All four boys brought their best times both Friday and Saturday. I am very proud of their accomplishments and their ability to overcome adversities throughout the season. They were focused, worked hard and were strong competitors.”
The Spartans finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 35.52 seconds for their finish, and all return next year except Richison.
The foursome also raced in the 400 freestyle relay, where they finished 15th with a time of 3:32.13.
That was just one of many highlights for the Spartans.
Powers, a junior, placed 14th with a personal-best in the 50 freestyle with a finals time of 22.98.
Sophomore Powers-Hubbard earned a 17th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.95 and a 20th-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a personal-best 1:51.63.
Spartan diver Evan Quaschnik, a junior, earned a 19th-place finish with 157.50 points.
