Sumner High’s boys lost 1-0 to White River March 15 in their first league soccer game of the season.

The Spartans also lost to nonleague Tyee 2-1 March 16 and defeated Eatonville 3-0 Friday in league play.

“Both games on Tuesday and Wednesday we struggled to finish the opportunities given to us,” coach Peter Voiles said. “We outshot White River 15-2 and Tyee 17-8. Ball movement and ability to penetrate their backline was very good on both days, but we lacked composure in the final third of the field.”

Against Eatonville, forward Kelly Ayers, midfielder Zach Colman and forward Jose Hernandez each scored during a 25-minute span.

The Spartans played Clover Park Tuesday; results came too late to include here, but can be found online.
