Sumner’s cross country teams both ran the state race in Pasco Saturday; the girls team finished in 12th place among 16 teams, and the boys came in 15th.
The girls’ Abi Hensler finished individually in 17th place, running a personal best time of 19 minutes, 45.4 seconds. She was followed by Robi Long in 69th with 20:57.6, Anna Hurd with 21:08.1, Natasha Wilson at 21:16.7, Amanda Riley with 223:52.9, Katie Wire with 24:06.6 and Kiana Achi with 24:24.4.
The boys’ Nate Weber came in 56th with a personal best 17:01.2 time. Weber had the distinction of being the fastest ninth-grader in the race. Arturo Perez came in 71st with 17:11.1, followed by Josh Goodsell with 17:38.3, Jordan Landes with 17:45.8, Thomas Oliver with 18:08.6, Zach Traufler with 18:18.4, and Dillon Smith with 19:40.7.
“It was such a fun, successful season with great, coachable athletes,” coach Kristin Chapman said. “Although we will have some big shoes to fill next year in regards to our current seniors, I think everyone is already looking ahead to another great season next year.”
