The Sumner and Bonney Lake baseball teams both host conference home games Tuesday, against Fife and Peninsula respectively.

The Spartans broke their undefeated conference streak with a 7-0 loss to Fife Monday afternoon. Both teams gained nothing through the third inning, until Fife picked up three runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth.

Batter Tysen Fischlin went to bat three times and connected twice. He hit one double. On the pitcher’s mound, Logan Christensen struck out three Fife batters.

The Spartans have had a mixed overall season but, until Monday, all their bad luck had been in nonleague games. They had most recently lost to North Thurston 3-1 Saturday. The team is now 6-1 in the South Puget Sound League 2A conference.

The Panthers may be moving in the opposite direction. As reported by Dennis Box in the Courier-Herald’s April 3 issue, the Panthers took two wins against Lakes and Enumclaw in week three, after opening the season with a losing streak.

The team went 12-1 against Lakes and 14-4 against the Hornets.
