Wolverines battle against Bruins

The Wolverine PeeWees had an exciting battle against the Benson Bruins in what turned out to be a 2-0 game.

Brandon Fox contributed several sacks. Raul Leos and Ryan Richey made great tackles. Offensively, Quentin Boggan and Tristan Knaus made a few long runs. Zachary Glebe had a key reception and Ethan McElderry did a good job passing.

The Wolverine Midgets had their best game this year. They outscored the Bruins in the second half, but were unable to catch up. Great play calling resulted in a pass by Austin Gregg back to Jordan Misensol for a touchdown. Another TD was made by Misensol on a QB sneak. Cole Richey hauled in a bobbling catch short of a first down and Christian Armstrong make a diving catch for another first down.Exceptional blocking was turned in by Alex McMillen. Jared Bulpin had three receptions for 40 yards. Andrew Northam ran the ball aggressively.

The Wolverine 89ers also fell to the Bruins. Great tackles were made by Champ Spencer. Kick off returns were made by Zack Jones and Jesse Gregg. Ryan Martinez also had a 21 yard run.

The Wolverine Bantam game was decided in the last 45 seconds. Mitchell Lockhart started the game with an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Jordan Johnson scored two TDs and Justin Peterson recovered a fumble. The final score was 25-19 Bruins.

During Thursday’s pep rally, the Wolverines retired the jersey of Jordan Davis, who was killed in a car accident last year with his brother Jerad. Jordan’s number 33 jersey will be displayed at all home games. JD33 is displayed on all coach’s shirts, player’s helmets and cheerleader’s socks. The Wolverines are proud to have Tim Davis helping coach the PeeWees this year.

Fifth-grade team prevents sweep

Wet weather started the day for the Junior Hornets against the Tacoma Panthers at Mount Tahoma High Saturday. Preventing a sweep, the fifth-grade team pulled off an emotionally-charged and long-awaited upset over the Panthers 18-16. They expected a battle and were prepared to play to win. The two teams traded touchdowns all game and the Hornets scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the third quarter. The defense stood its ground and kept the Panthers’ running game in check long enough to seal the win. Saturday, the Hornets host the Northeast Tacoma Tigers at Pete’s Pool.
