STATE BASKETBALL: EHS boys beat Bellevue, earn spot in Friday semifinals

The Enumclaw High boys won their second straight Class 3A state tournament game Thursday night, defeating Bellevue and advancing to the semifinal round.

The Enumclaw High boys won their second straight Class 3A state tournament game Thursday night, defeating Bellevue and advancing to the semifinal round.

The Hornets hung on to down Bellevue 66-63 and will take on either O’Dea or Shadle Park at 8:30 Friday evening. O’Dea and Shadle were playing Thursday’s nightcap.

If the Hornets win Friday, they will play at 7 p.m. Saturday for the state 3A title.

If the Hornets lose Friday, they will play at 3:30 Saturday afternoon for either the third- or sixth-place trophy.

Enumclaw jumped to a 33-25 halftime lead against Bellevue and pushed the advantage to 49-36 by the end of the third quarter. Bellevue rallied to outscore the Hornets 27-17 in the final frame but EHS held on for the victory.

All five Hornet starters hit for double figures. Riley Carel led the way with 18, Jayson Lewis added 13 and Coleman Clyde had 12. Taylor Myers chipped in with 11 points and Tarren VanTrojen finished with 10.
