Undefeated superstar Stopshoppingdebbie leads a list of 10 nominations to the $65,000 Emerald Distaff, on Sunday, Aug. 24.
At 1 1/8 miles, the Distaff is Emerald Downs’ championship event for fillies and mares and part of a stakes doubleheader that includes the 79th running of the $200,000 Longacres Mile (G3).
Stopshoppingdebbie, 8-for-8 in her illustrious career, has swept the Distaff division so far this season with victories in the Hastings and Boeing Handicaps and the Washington State Legislators Stakes. In last month’s Boeing, Stopshoppingdebbie tied Ropersandwranglers mark of seven consecutive stakes wins at Emerald Downs.
Her trainer, Tom Wenzel, also nominated stalwart fillies Goin to the Window and Blueberry Smoothie, who have finished second and third, respectively, to Stopshoppingdebbie in the previous two stakes.
Speaking of trainers, Hall of Fame conditioner Jerry Hollendorfer has nominated graded-stakes winner Scarlet Strike, who has amassed more than $400,000 in purse earnings. Hollendorfer, a three-time Distaff winner, captured last Saturday’s $65,000 Washington Oaks with 3-year-old filly Lady Fifty Two.
Hastings Racecourse-based runners Wando Woman and Castinette Dancer were also nominated; both having raced at Emerald Downs once in their career. Wando Woman, a four-time stakes winner coming off a half-length score in the BC Cup Distaff Handicap on August 4, finished second to E Z Kitty in last year’s Emerald Distaff. Whereas, Washington-bred Castinette Dancer, a three-time stakes winner, finished fourth to Exclusive Diva in last year’s Washington State Legislators Stakes.
