The Sumner High fastpitch bunch got last week off to a fabulous start as it hosted nonleague opponent Spanaway Lake April 12 and blanked the Sentinels 4-0.
Spartan windmiller Allie Sims drew the starting assignment on the hill and pitched a one hit jewel. Despite the Spartan defense making four errors, the freshman kept her composure, issuing just three walks.
The Spartans’ offense was keyed by a run-scoring triple by senior infielder Mandy Humphries and a 1-for-3 day at the plate by Laree Rommel, who whacked a timely single two coax home two runs.
The rest of the week was bleak for the purple and gold as Enumclaw came to town April 14 and won 9-2, thanks to 13 SHS errors.
Sumner traveled to Peninsula High Friday and could only scratch out two paltry hits, losing 7-0 and knocking their league mark down to 2-8.
