The Sumner Spartans lost the only game they played last week when they traveled to White River Friday for a make-up South Puget Sound League 3A game that had originally been slated for May 5, but was postponed due to weather.
Sumner lost 11-10 in 10 innings to the Hornets, who were clinging to fleeting playoff hopes and played like it. White River scratched out a bonus panel victory that won’t soon be forgotten by Hornet followers.
Sumner will do its best to forget the Hornet sting. The 6-7 Spartans have a bigger fish to fry this week, as they will be playing their last regular season contest against unbeaten 13-0 Bonney Lake.
If they manage to topple Bonney Lake, the Spartans would finish with a league mark of 7-7, tied with Franklin Pierce.
If Sumner loses to Bonney Lake, it will finish its league campaign at 6-8, wrapping up a No. 5 seed, which will earn them an encounter with either Renton or Highline out of the Seamount League at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Spanaway.
