The Sumner girls swim team brought home a decisive win over Steilacoom Thursday, with a final score of 109-77.
Senior Madison Munger won both the 200 individual medley and the100 butterfly. Alicia Ditty went undefeated this season in the 100 backstroke, with the most recent time of 1 minute, 7.40 seconds.
Sophie Walker and Petria Russell went 1-1 in the 200 freestyle and they turned a 1-2-4 in the 500freestyle; Russell placed first, Michaelann Wilson placed second and Walker fought hard to place fourth. All three of them made district cuts.
Thursday’s best swim, said Coach Dana Powers, was senior Kristin Easterly’s 100 breast stroke. Easterly swam just shy of her record time to make a district cut in1.24.88.
Illiana Kaiser placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1.03.64 and second in the 100 backstroke.
“(Kaiser’s) 100 free is just getting faster and faster,” said Powers. “I’m looking forward to our championship season swims to be able to break the minute mark.”
Freshman Lauren Baker tore a tendon while diving but still managed to produce one of her best dives of the season, said Powers. Kali Barns, another freshman diver, went to the dive meet Friday and qualified for Districts with 214.2.
The team is celebrating an undefeated season but their hard work isn’t over yet. The 3A league meets begin 6 p.m. Thursday at Henry Foss.
