Sumner High’s girls double team of Emily Taylor and Reanne Charuhas fell short in their bid to compete in this week’s Class 3A state tennis championships.

The Spartan duo lost 6-1, 6-1 to Natalie Nicholson and Stephanie Hughes of Capital High, who earned the right to advance to the state tournament as the West Central District’s No. 7 seed.

The Spartan pair pulled off a 7-5, 7-5 win over Hazen’s Natalie Goode and Torri Middlekauff in a tough consolation bracket encounter.

Next, Taylor and Charuhas lost to Sakura Porter and Anna Quach of Evergreen, 6-2, 6-2.

Bonney Lake’s sister team of Emily and Alise McCoy was eliminated from tournament play with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Nicholson and Hughes in the consolation bracket.

The McCoys lost to Molly and Maggie Henderson in second-round action, 6-4, 6-2.
