Sumner Tennis: Spartans score 5-0 victory

The Sumner High girls tennis team went on the road and scored a 5-0 win over Franklin Pierce Thursday in South Puget Sound League 3A play in Parkland, Wash.

Brittany Fulton beat Elise Utterback 6-2, 6-4, and Julia Charauhas beat Sarah Webster, 6-1, 6-0.

Emily Taylor and Reanne Charuhas defeated Cathy Wilmot and Grace Pak, 6-2, 6-4; Erinn Carlson and Lyndsey Plute downed Marisa Bautista and Amy Kim, 6-3, 6-4; and Rachel Hilburn and Brittany Skirm beat Leah Stippich and Dalina Phung, 6-2, 6-4.

Sumner fell to Enumclaw, 3-2, in league play April 21 at home.

Both teams split the single matches. Fulton beat Morgan Johnson in three sets after dropping the first, 6-7, and taking the next two, 6-3, 7-5, while Amanda Oster downed Charuhas, 6-1, 6-1.

Sumner scored a victory in doubles play as Carlson and Plute beat Julie Sanders and Breanna Pierce, 6-3, 6-2.

The Hornets’ Lauren Redman and Anna Nelson lost their first set, 6-4, but bounced back to down Taylor and Charuhas, 7-6, 6-1.

Sumner plays at Lakes today, Wednesday, and hosts Peninsula Friday in league play.
