The White River High girls defeated Eatonville 49-36 Tuesday night to earn the South Puget Sound League 2A No. 1 seed into postseason play.
The teams had tied with 13-1 records at the end of the regular season and played Tuesday night in Sumner to determine the top postseason entry. Getting the No. 1 seed, as opposed to No. 2, is a big deal because it makes the path to the state tournament easier.
Sparking the Hornet victory was a defense that allowed just eight points, combined, in the second and third quarters.
The White River offense was led by a pair of freshmen. Kristin Sturdivan poured in a game-high 18 points and Amanda Lance added 12.
With Tuesday’s victory, the Hornets will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Clover Park High School. The opponent will be the Port Angeles Roughriders.
If White River wins Thursday, the Hornets will play at 6 p.m. Saturday, again at Clover Park. The opponent would be the winner of Thursday’s contest between Kingston and Renton. If the Hornets lose Thursday, they will play at 4 p.m. Saturday at Clover Park, against the Kingston/Renton loser.
