Ugottabcatty rallied under leading rider Leslie Mawing and scored a half-length victory Friday in the $11,650 Northwest Brewing Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.
Ugottabcatty ran six furlongs in 1:08.88 on a fast track and paid $5.80, $3.20 and $2.20. Robbie Baze is the trainer for owner James Foulkes.
Star of the Dia, ridden by Isaias Enriquez, finished second by a nose and paid $3.80 and $2.80. Spot of Salt, the 6-to-5 betting favorite ridden by Eliska Kubinova, was head back in third place and paid $2.40 to show.
Red Defense, Parkers Bluff and Financial Officer rounded out the order of finish.
Last early, Ugottabcatty gathered momentum on the turn, angled out into the stretch, and collared Star of the Dia and Spot of Salt in the final strides. It was the second straight last-to-first victory for Ugottabcatty, both with Mawing riding.
An 8-year-old Washington-bred gelding, Ugottabcatty broke his maiden at Emerald Downs on July 10, 2008, and has been a fixture in mid-level claimers for six years.
By Jazzing Around-Nightly Habit, Ugottabcatty is 7-13-10 in 41 starts lifetime with earnings of $104,168, including $6,408 forFriday’s triumph.
