The Bonney Lake boys baseball team played a home game on Osborne Field Wednesday and beat the Hornets 2-1 in eight innings.

The Bonney Lake Panthers managed to squeeze in one baseball game during last week’s rainy weather, beating Enumclaw 2-1 in eight innings March 28.

Bonney Lake is 2-2 in the South Puget Sound League 3A play, trailing Peninsula and Auburn Mountainview.

The game against Enumclaw was a pitchers’ duel. Joey Gamache earned the win for the Panthers.

Bonney Lake scored first in the fifth inning off Enumclaw’s Kevin Nelson. Enumclaw tied the game in the seventh, sending the contest into extra innings.

“Enumclaw played tough as always,” coach Mike Olson wrote in an email. “Nelson really competed on the mound and held us at bay. Fortunately Joey was battling as well and we made a few big plays behind him.”

The Panthers were able to keep Enumclaw from scoring in the top of the eighth.

Dylan Moran scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth off a double by Michael Gretler.

Moran went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

“We’ve been struggling to put things together offensively,” Olson said. “Hopefully, Michael’s big hit can put a little spark into us and we can get on a roll.”

The next scheduled game for Bonney Lake is 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Auburn Mountainview.
