Most of Diana Ekstrom’s 13 girls water polo players are freshmen, but that could change as the weeks progress and word spreads about the last-minute addition to the spring sports lineup.

This season, due to budget cuts, the team, which combines the two Sumner School District high schools, will be part of the Bonney Lake-Sumner Parks and Recreation Department.

“These girls want to play,” Ekstrom said in an e-mail. “We have had two days of practice and I am impressed.”

The Bonney Lake-Sumner team is scheduled to play in the Eastern Division of the South Sound Girls Water Polo League with Auburn, Auburn Riverside, Auburn Mountainview, Enumclaw and Peninsula.
