The Enumclaw High girls were able to play just one game last week before Mother Nature threw a technical foul at the entire western Washington prep sports scene.

The Hornets managed a convincing 59-38 road victory over Peninsula High the evening of Dec. 16, then saw their Dec. 19 home contest against Clover Park wiped out due to snow and icy roads.

That leaves a serious hole in the EHS schedule, as the Hornets girls aren’t slated to play again until Tuesday when they make a long road trip to Wenatchee. The crew from east of the mountains trekked west to take on Enumclaw last year.

Enumclaw’s victory over Peninsula was set in motion when the Hornets built a 29-16 halftime lead, then sealed it with a 21-10 advantage in the third quarter.

Enumclaw was led by Mara Koplitz, who scored 17 points, Jaynae Sayler with 14 and Hayley Kohler with 10.

The Hornets are sitting at 4-2 overall and 3-0 in South Puget Sound League 3A play, tied for the league lead with Plateau neighbor White River.

Enumclaw returns to SPSL 3A play Jan. 6 with a trip to Auburn Mountainview.
