White River Hornets expected to continue win streak against Kentlake

EHS is also looking at a likely easy win against Thomas Jefferson.

The evening of Sept. 27 provided a double dose of success for the Plateau’s prep football programs, as both White River and Enumclaw High schools posted resounding victories.

While EHS was rolling to a 42-25 triumph over the visiting Federal Way Eagles (see page one), the Buckley crew took to the road for a 27-7 win over Todd Beamer.

Each victory looks more significant as the local squads navigate the first month of the 3A North Puget Sound League campaign. The Plateau schools have seen enrollment growth in recent years and were bumped up to the Class 3A level for the four-year period that began this fall. Previously, the teams participated in the 2A South Puget Sound League.

The early results are encouraging. White River is undefeated in league play (3-0) and, in the league standings, sits just fractionally behind the highly-regarded Decatur Gators (4-0). White River is 3-1 overall with its lone loss coming during a nonleague tussle against Fife.

Enumclaw is now 3-1 with all four results coming against 3A NPSL foes. The Hornets’ sole defeat came at the hands of Decatur.

Up next for White River: The odds look good for a White River club that will look to stay undefeated this Thursday, Oct. 3.

The Hornets will travel to take on Kentlake with a 6 p.m. kickoff.

The Falcons are winless after four weeks of play and are one of the lowest-rated teams in the state, according to the Rating Percentage Index used by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (69th among the state’s 72 Class 3A schools). The team has given up 201 points in its four outings while scoring just 14.

Up next for Enumclaw: The EHS squad will wait until Saturday to take the field against Thomas Jefferson at Federal Way Memorial Stadium. It’s a rare afternoon affair with kickoff at 1 p.m.

The Raiders occupy one of the lowest rungs in the RPI system used by the WIAA, sitting at No. 68 among the Class 3A’s 72 schools. That’s based on TJ’s 0-4 record, with all four losses coming against league opponents. The Raiders’ schedule has been a bit difficult, however, with games against White River and Decatur, the league leaders.
