Guinn’s title helps Lady Hornets finish second

Jake Hendricks’ state title lifted the White River High powerlifting team to a second-place finish at the state meet May 2 at Montesano High School.

The Lady Hornets also captured second place at the meet.

The White River men’s team edged River Ridge of Lacey by a single point for their second-place spot. Hendricks, a senior, earned his state championship victory at 220 pounds by besting Pee Wee Sanders of River Ridge, which pushed the Hornets past the Hawks for team points.

Hendricks was one of three state champions for White River. Barry Bonville and Olivia Guinn were also title winner in their respective weight classes.

Twelve schools from across Washington were represented at the meet with 125 lifters competing.

Kevin Moore, Kassie Crossen, Lizzy Pries and Haley Farris each placed second.

Lindsay Lyons, Katiejo Clinkingbeard, Kameron Kujawa and Laura Liljeberg were third-place finishers for the Hornets.

Samantha Lovelace finished fourth, while Shelby Pryzwarty and Aaron Fox were fifth. Payd’n Borland was a seventh-place finisher.

Hendricks and Crossen also received Good Sportsmanship trophies. Good Sportsmanship trophies are voted on by the meet’s judges.

“Only four of these trophies were handed out and two of those trophies went to White River lifters,” White River coach Juan Garibay said. He noted it was a great job by all White River state qualifiers and thanked them for representing the school and community with great sportsmanship.
