Gurule and Williams score championships for Hornets
White River High wrestling coach Joe Klein couldn’t think of a better way to capitalize on a week of frustration then by finishing a strong second with two champions and a pair of runners-up at the Bothell High tournament Saturday.
Klein found out Dec. 24 the Berserker Tournament at Curtis High in Tacoma his Hornets were scheduled to attend Saturday was canceled. In the two days that followed, the veteran coach scrambled to find his team, or at least a dozen of them, an alternative.
“We’re just glad to be back on the mat,” he said. “It’s nice to get some competition. We’re happy to be wrestling anywhere with the weather the way it was. It was a good tournament for our guys to get into. There was good competition and some good challenges.”
Jeremy Gurule and Alec Williams pulled down the Hornets’ titles at 135 pounds and 140 pounds respectively.
Chase Myers, at 215 pounds, and David Meagher, heavyweight, earned second-place finishes.
At 103 pounds, White River’s Richard Geddes was a third-place finisher.
Joey Andersen earned a fourth-place finish for the Hornets at 189 pounds.
