The White River High track and field team opened the South Puget Sound League 2A season with mixed success.
White the Hornet boys were chalking up a 78-57 victory over the visiting Orting Cardinals, the White River girls finished on the short end of a 75-61 decision.
Picking up first-place honors for the White River boys were Alex Anderson in the 1,600 meters; Brandon Scheer in the 400; Jadon Flanders, 800 meters; Hunter Hendricks, 200 meters; Seth Berryhill, 3,200 meters; Duggan Young, shot put; Andrew Northam, long jump; Spencer Wilson, pole vault; Sean Hayes, javelin; and the 1,600-meter relay team.
The Hornet girls were paced by three-time winner Jade Crawford. She was tops in the 110-meter hurdles, triple jump and high jump.
Other winning performances were turned in by Grace Clapshaw in the 3,200-meter run; Cassidy Kunst, 300-meter hurdles; Maddie Moser, 800 meters; Gabby Sandsness, shot put; and Amanda Lance, long jump.
