Kennedy Hobert totaled 40 points as the White River Hornets captured a pair of South Puget Sound League 2A victories.
With a Friday win at Fife and a Jan. 3, home-court pasting of Franklin Pierce, the White River girls stayed perfect in league play. In addition to the 6-0 league mark, the team built an impressive 10-1 overall record.
Through games of last week, the league was proving to be highly competitive. While White River led the way, both Sumner and Eatonville sat just a game behind at 5-1.
The Hornets finish the first half of league play Tuesday with an important home game against Sumner. White River travels to Bonney Lake Thursday, then kicks off the second half of league play Friday at Clover Park.
Friday’s win at Fife didn’t come easy, as the Hornets and Trojans were deadlocked at 19 apiece when they headed into the locker room at halftime. White River managed just a two-point margin in the third frame, but put things away with a 13-7 advantage during the final eight minutes.
Hobert, the No. 2 scorer in the SPSL 2A, tallied a game-high 14 points.
White River had an easy time putting away Franklin Pierce. Hobert exploded for 26 points during a lopsided 70-33 victory. Sutton Mills added 12 points and Kristin Sturdivan added 10.
The Hornets were never challenged, outscoring the Cardinals 26-7 in the first quarter and racing to a 45-18 halftime lead.
