Despite being a year removed from a stellar season, some question marks have cropped up for the White River girls soccer team.

Chief among those is how to replace four members of last year’s starting lineup. Gone are Nicole Partlow and Morgan Brown, both lost to graduation, plus Kinsey Gandel and Maggie Williams, who moved from the district.

Despite those departures, coach Charlie Carlier is confident his group will compete well in the second season of the SPSL 2A.

“We kind of have a good thing going here,” he said.

Leading the way offensively will by the goal-scoring tandem of Cassidy France and Ashley Powell. Fans might have some early apprehension about the health of France’s knee, but Carlier said everything appears to be fine. The senior captain suffered ligament damage during the early part of last year’s basketball season and had the knee surgically repaired.

“I’m pretty comfortable with our defense,” Carlier added, noting that Kylee Englebert is returning to keep things solid in goal.

If there’s a missing piece to the puzzle, where players will have to step up and fill a void, it’s in the midfield ranks.

Carlier and Hornet followers had a chance to see how things were coming together Tuesday when the team hosted Black Hills. Thursday, White River hosts Enumclaw at 7 p.m.
