The Bonney Lake High wrestling team took its show on the road, defeating Franklin Pierce 61-15 to go 4-4 in South Puget Sound League 3A dual matches.
“I’ll take that regular season record in this tough league any day of the week,” said coach Anthony Clarke, adding that he was pleased with the way his grapplers have been progressing as they head into the subdistrict tournament that begins Friday afternoon at Auburn Mountainview High School.
Bonney Lake burst out to an 18-0 advantage over Franklin Pierce as 103-pounder James Jackson pinned his foe 21 seconds into the second round and Andrew Cunningham and Robbie Slick collected forfeits at 112 and 119 pounds, respectively.
Franklin Pierce erased the goose egg on its side of the ledger when it collected a pin at 125 pounds, but the Panthers bounced back to glean triumphs at the next three weights.
Gordi St. Peter commenced the mini-run at 130 pounds as he won 14-7, while David Hathaway, 135 pounds, and Nick Bendon, 140, earned pins.
Panther 145-pounder Josh Peart suffered a rare loss, dropping a 5-4 decision, but Bonney Lake again won three in a row. Jake Leuders, 160, Evan Dorsey, 171, and David Vance, 189, all won with first-round pins.
The SPSL 3A rivals split the final two matches of the evening, with Franklin Pierce claiming the win at 215 pounds and Panther heavyweight Jared Dorsey pinning his challenger midway through the second round.
