The Bonney Lake Panthers placed fourth in the team standings with 133 points during Saturday’s 3A regional wrestling tournament and will send seven grapplers to the state tournament.

“I witnessed a lot more parity at this year’s regional tournament than in any other past season,” said mat mentor Anthony Clarke. “I think a lot of the same guys you saw wrestling at this regional event are going to be wrestling each other in the championship bouts next weekend in the Tacoma Dome at the Mat Classic.”

For Clarke, the top regional competitor was 112-pound Andrew Cunningham, who is the reigning 3A state champion at 103 pounds.

As young as they are, the Panthers made their presence felt, especially in the lighter and middle weights.

Joining Cunningham at state will be 103-pound Colton Tracy and 160-pound Jake Lueders.

Tracy and Lueders were runners up on the podium in their weight classifications.

Besides those silver medal collectors, also hopping aboard the Bonney Lake bus for the T-Dome will be Chili Sabin, who finished third at 140 pounds.

Bonney Lake 145-pounder Justin Rush also finished third.

Also representing Bonney Lake at state will be 135-pounder Matt Yuste, who finished fourth, and 152-pound Tyler Hernandez, who finished fifth.
