The Sumner High wrestling squad’s season came to what seemed like a premature close compared to past campaigns, as none of the dozen Spartan wrestlers in the South Puget Sound League 3A subdistrict meet at Auburn Mountainview High advanced to this weekend’s regional tournament.

The purple and gold flag of the Spartan camp was best represented by sixth-place finishers 119-pounder Jeremy Jackson, 125-pounder Markus Forhan and promising freshman Zach Wooding at 135 pounds.

All SPSL 3A wrestlers are invited to give the subdistricts a shot, but only the elite four finishers in each weight category get a berth in Saturday’s regionals at Mount Rainier High School.
