Thursday brought four waves of success for the White River High cross country crew, as both the Hornet boys and girls teams defeated Fife and Steilacoom.
The South Puget Sound League 2A double-dual meet was staged at Spanaway Lake Park. With the twin wins, the Hornet boys improved to 3-0 in league competition and the girls moved to 2-1.
The White River boys claimed the top five finishes while defeating Fife 15-50 and had a fairly easy time against Steilacoom, winning 20-37. The Hornet girls slipped past Fife by the closest of margins, winning 27-28, and handled Steilacoom 17-43.
For the boys, White River’s Kody Gould and Marcus Dickson again hit the finish line shoulder-to-shoulder. Gould received a slight first-place nod with a time of 16 minutes, 55.3 seconds, while Dickson was credited with a time of 16:55.5. Others factoring in the Hornet scoring were Chris Fisher, fourth overall; Wes Fueston, sixth; and Kyle Smith, eighth.
The White River girls were paced again by Lauryn Wate, who finished first overall with a time of 20:31. Rounding out the team scoring were Kelly Coyle, third overall; Christina Ramous, fourth; Jenna Guenthner, 10th; and Eryn Maris, 11th.
