WRHS football suffers first loss of the season; EHS keeps racking up wins

White River couldn’t bust through Federal Way’s defense, but Enumclaw clobbered Kent-Meridian 71-0.

Shutouts were key to the football fortunes last week for the two Plateau teams, in a good way for Enumclaw and a disappointing way for White River.

The evening of Oct. 11 saw the EHS squad host Kent-Meridian and roll to a 71-0 shellacking of the Lions. At the same time, the Buckley crew traveled to Federal Way where they were blanked 15-0 by the host Eagles.

The Expo Center victory pushed Enumclaw’s record to 5-1 on the season, with all games against 3A North Puget Sound League opponents. Friday’s loss knocked White River out of first place and dropped the team’s record to 4-1 in league play (4-2 overall).

Next up for Enumclaw: The Hornets will be on the road Friday, Oct. 18, to challenge Auburn Mountainview. The Lions have had their share of troubles this season, winning two of six games; last week, Mountainview fell 49-0 to Decatur.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Auburn Memorial Stadium.

Next up for White River: After being shut out a week ago, coach Wyatt Evenson’s squad will look to bounce back against a Kent-Meridian team that last week surrendered 71 points to Enumclaw.

Due to an ongoing issue with a shortage of officials, White River’s homecoming contest has been moved up by 24 hours. Originally scheduled for this Friday, Oct. 18, the game is now set for Thursday, the 17th. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Arrow Lumber Stadium on the Buckley campus.
