Playing three games in three days against a diverse set of opponents is the challenge facing the White River High girls basketball team.

The Hornets will host a traveling Australian team in an exhibition game Thursday, square off against league rival Steilacoom Friday and travel to Burien Saturday for a nonleague tussle with Kennedy Catholic, one of the top-ranked Class 2A squads in the state. The first two games are at 7 p.m. and the Kennedy contest begins at 5.

The busy schedule comes on top of Tuesday night’s South Puget Sound League 2A contest at Clover Park.

Coach Chris Gibson and his Hornets should be well rested, having played only one game last week. White River moved to 3-0 on the season with a convincing 55-40 victory Dec. 7 over visiting Bonney Lake.

Nearly all the White River scoring came from the trio of Brooke Paulson, Rani Weigand and Kennedy Hobert. Paulson poured in a team-high 19 points, Weigand – who played for the Panthers last year – added 18 against her former teammates and Hobert contributed 12.

White River played without point guard Cassidy France, who sustained a knee injury during the team’s Dec. 3 victory over Enumclaw.
