The White River High girls picked up two more South Puget Sound League 2A victories and appear headed toward a first-place showdown with the Sumner Spartans.

There’s still basketball to be played before Tuesday night’s showdown on the Spartans’ court, but each appears poised to enter the contest undefeated in league play. It will be the first of two meetings between clubs that have quickly moved to the top of the SPSL 2A ladder.

Before squaring off against the Spartans, the Hornets will host Fife Friday night.

White River improved to 4-0 in league play with a 65-54, home court victory over Eatonville Friday night.

The Hornets grabbed a 22-15 lead after one quarter of play and kept a healthy advantage to the end.

Six White River players cracked the scoring column and four were in double figures. Rani Wiegand led the way with 21 points, Kennedy Hobert added 14, Sabra Sproul finished with 13 and Brooke Paulson chipped in with 12.

The Hornets had improved to 3-0 in SPSL 2A play Jan. 4 when they blasted the visiting Washington Patriots 68-50.

The outcome was never really in doubt as White River raced to a 23-4 lead after eight minutes and took a 40-14 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Hornet lead increased to 28 points by the end of the third quarter.

The White River offense was sparked by Wiegand and Hobert, who poured in 21 and 20 points, respectively. Paulson added 10.
