White River High volleyball standout Kianna Rohner has officially agreed to lend her considerable talents to Dominican University of California.
She had verbally committed to join the Penguin program in July but made it official during a Dec. 11 ceremony on the White River campus.
Rohner had caught the eye of Dominican coaches during the summer while playing for Puget Sound Volleyball Academy in a national tournament in Las Vegas. The coaches suggested she visit the campus, she took them up on the offer and, after the visit, agreed to join the Penguin roster.
Rohner will take an impressive resume to California’s Central Coast. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker was a first team, all-league honoree during the fall campaign, White River’s first season in the Class 3A North Puget Sound League. She had earned first team honors following her junior season when the Hornets competed at the 2A level and was a second team 2A selection as a sophomore.
At the close of her senior season, Rohner was ranked No. 11 among the state’s 3A players with a .283 hitting percentage and was No. 26 when considering all classifications in Washington. She finished the season with 225 kills and 36 total blocks (17 solo).
Dominican, located just a dozen miles north of San Francisco, participates at the NCAA Division II level. The athletic program fields teams in 15 NCAA sports from the 80-acre campus in San Rafael. Dominican is a member of the Pacific West Conference (PacWest), which counts 14 full members; all are found in California and Hawaii and all but one are private institutions.
The Dominican volleyball team will be looking to bounce back next fall when Rohner joins the squad. The Penguins finished the recent season with a 6-20 record that included a 5-15 mark in PacWest play.
