The White River High girls completed the South Puget Sound League 2A soccer campaign with an impressive 11-3 mark, good for second place behind the 13-1 crew from Sumner.
The Hornets clinched the division’s No. 2 spot in convincing fashion last week, outscoring a pair of league opponents 8-0. An easy 6-0, Oct. 26 victory over Franklin Pierce was followed by Thursday’s 2-0 blanking of Washington. Both games were on the road.
The Hornets will play a yet-to-be-decided opponent at 1 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Pierce High.
The win at Franklin Pierce was highlighted by the four-goal night of Kinsey Gandel. Cassidy France and Morgan Clough also had goals to back up the shutout goalkeeping of Kylie Englebert.
Things weren’t so easy two days later, when the Hornets traveled to the Patriots’ field. After battling to a scoreless tie at halftime, White River jumped on top when France found the net at the 48-minute mark. Payton Bushaw put the game on ice with a goal in the 73rd minute as Englebert added another shutout to her resumé.
