The White River High girls picked up two wins while the Hornet boys found mixed success Thursday during a double dual track and field meet at Franklin Pierce High School.
Aside from White River and the host Cardinals, the meet attracted the Eatonville Cruisers.
The Hornet girls rang up a 70-61 victory over Franklin Pierce and handled Eatonville 74-60. The White River boys buried the Cruisers 90-35 but fell to the Cardinals 86-58.
The Hornet girls were paced by Alysa Aashiem and Lauryn Wate, winners of two events each. Aashiem captured the 100 meters in a time of 13.96 seconds and won the 300-meter hurdles in 53.54. Wate was first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.40 and took the 1,600-meter run in 5:34.36.
Other winning performances for the Hornet girls were turned in by Jessica Tidwell, who took the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches, and Kelly Coyle, who cleared 8 feet to win the pole vault.
The White River boys had a three-time winner in Kody Gould. He was first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.01, won the 1,600 meters in 4:55.36 and took the 3,200 meters in 10:46.60.
A pair of Hornet boys were two-time winners.
Devin Liebel won both hurdle races for the Hornets. He was tops in the 110-meter version with a time of 16.46 and won the 300-meter hurdle race in 42.58.
Other winners on the day were Marcus Dickson, who won the 400 meters in 51.88, and Austin Shirey, who cleared 10 feet to win the pole vault.
Pasco Invitational
A trimmed-down Hornet squad traveled Saturday to the big Pasco Invitational, which annually attracts the top track and field athletes from around the state, representing all classifications.
The top White River finisher was Dickson, who missed winning the mile run by the narrowest of margins. He clocked a time of 4:14.97, nipped at the finish line by Kamiakin’s Anthony Armstrong, who finished at 4:14.96. He also placed sixth in the 800 meters.
Shirey cleared 13-6 to tie for fifth in the pole vault.
The best showings by the White River girls came from Wate, who was 11th in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:24.89, and Aashiem, who finished 14th in the javelin with a toss of 107-11.
