Like the author of last week’s column, I too am frustrated with the political realm and the choices we face for presidential candidates. Unlike the author, I decided weeks ago to avoid watching the many regional and statewide appearances of the remaining competitors, especially given the hate-filled vitriol that permeates the press and televised proceedings.
Lake Tapps isn’t closed, but the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is cautioning people that swimming, wading or fishing in the lake could be unsafe due to reports of toxic algae.

Last Friday the Pierce County Prosecutor’s office planned to arraign Gabriel Indelicio Nevarez, 28, on one count of first degree murder for the 2007 drive-by shooting of Kyle Grinnell, 46. Instead, the judge in the case ordered Nevarez undergo an evaluation at Western State Hospital to determine if he is competent to stand trial.
