Necessity is the mother of invention, the old saying goes, and if there’s a common enough problem, someone’s going to come along and solve it. This fall, 10 students from around the nation are coming together to share their solutions for problems they’ve encountered. One of these scientists is Sumner student Amelia Day.
Late yesterday in Pierce County Superior Court Mazzar Robinson, 41, was found guilty of murder in the first degree, conspiracy to commit murder, burglary, attempted robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. Co-defendant Michael Rowland, 32, was found guilty of murder in the first degree, burglary and attempted robbery.
Officers pulled over a car on July 20 for using powerful yellow headlights. The driver told officers the car was registered to his grandmother and he did not have his license with him. Officers attempted to run the name and date of birth the driver gave them through the system but the information that appeared did not match the driver.
Officers were dispatched on July 17 to a gunshot report. The maintenance man for the apartment complex told officers who fired the shot and the shot was fired accidentally into the apartment wall.
Officers were called on July 13 to graffiti in the street in the 19200 block of 75th St E. Officers saw two messages with anti-police sentiments and what looked like male genitalia.
Officers conducted a liquor law compliance check on July 8. The underage aide was able to buy a 24 ounce can of beer from a gas station even though he presented the female sales clerk with an underage ID.
Officers were called on July 5 to a vehicle collision. Officers arrived on the scene and learned a dirt bike had collided with two parked cars. The rider of the bike was being treated by East Pierce Fire and Rescue.
A popular stretch of the Foothills Trail will be closed for a few more days as Pierce County crews make repairs to the Carbon River levee between Orting and South Prairie.
