On June 7, an officer was in the lobby of the police department dealing with a male who said his duffel bag was stolen out of the bed of his truck.
On June 8, an officer was called to a fast food restaurant to a report on counterfeit bills. The male who got the bills reported the call. He said the female worker at the restaurant gave him two counterfeit five dollar bills as change.
An officer was dispatched to a family medical walk-in clinic on June 8 for a suspicious persons report. The staff said the male subject arrived at the clinic covered in what appeared to be dried blood and he seemed to be very intoxicated.
Two officers were called to a house due to an unwanted disorderly subject on June 8. A male subject was banging on a resident’s door and yelling at people inside. There had been a party going on next door, so the owner of the house thought the male suspect came from there.
Thankfully, June 8 marked a milestone for Congress. Members came together and overwhelmingly approved a sweeping bill that regulates tens of thousands of toxic chemicals in everyday products, from household cleaners to clothing and furniture.

The regularly scheduled City Council Workshop and Community Development Committee Meeting on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 have been cancelled to allow Councilmembers and staff to attend the Association of Washington Cities annual conference.
Last Friday Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist charged Lee Allen Comenout Jr., 27, and Edward Amos Comenout, 25, with two counts of robbery in the first degree and one count of attempted robbery in the first degree. Edward Comenout was also charged with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle.
Lots of medical news this week: a Bonney Lake High School senior is seeking a kidney so she can attend college in the fall, and East Pierce hosted their annual Fill the Boot fundraiser over the weekend. Midtown residents in Bonney Lake are now in an Assessment Reimbursement Area, which could cost them thousands of dollars to connect to the city’s sewer lines in the future. East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters and volunteers with the Muscular Dystrophy Association once again collected money for families affected by muscular dystrophy.
We all build walls around ourselves. Sometimes we build these walls because it can be healthy to compartmentalize different parts of our lives. But these walls can just as often hold us back or even harm us, or the people around us. We can become so concentrated on what is inside our walls that we are blind to what happens outside of them.
It’s really nice to see progress being made on the things that affect so many of us. There’s no question that the Traffic Avenue/E Main/SR 410 interchange is a bottleneck that affects Sumner, Puyallup, commuters, freight mobility and even emergency services response. The good news about so many people being affected at once is that funding can come from a variety of sources.
It is a good thing that we have a good gardening column in The Courier-Herald with the capable Marianne Binetti giving us good advice. I usually consider myself a pretty good gardener and certainly not a beginner, but I am flunking hanging baskets! I received a really beautiful basket from my kids for Mother’s Day and it is in very sad shape. The hot weather has taken its toll; the flowers are sagging and the leaves are wilting. Well, you get the picture.
