The next round in the battle on access to public bathrooms was waged Thursday in Yakima. That’s when an obscure legislative committee that rarely meets heard challenges to the state rule allowing transgender people to use the public bathroom of the gender they identify with — which may not be the one assigned them at birth.
Yesterday a jury found Larry Lee, 51, guilty of Murder in the Second Degree for the death of Philip Carter, 59. The jury also found Lee guilty of Manslaughter in the First Degree and returned a special verdict finding that the victim was particularly vulnerable. The jury delivered their verdicts following a 6 day trial.
“There is something in the American soul that wants to believe that it is facing disaster, that it has failed, that some corruption deep in its being will steal its success. I suspect that this has something to do with the familial recollections of immigrants.”
Today the Court sentenced Michael Clifford Boisselle, 36, to 260 months in prison for the shooting of his roommate Brandon Zomalt in August of 2014. On May 23, a jury found Boisselle guilty on counts of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

On June 5 officers were dispatched to a road rage incident between a car and a motorcycle on SR 410. Officers contacted the male driver of the car first, who said the male motorcyclist was swerving in traffic and passing other cars at a high rate of speed until the motorcycle eventually cut him off.
Officers attempted to pull over a motorcycle with a defective tail light on June 3, but the biker took off after officers activated their emergency lights. Officers were unable to keep up with the motorcycle after it pulled into a residential area, but officers soon found the bike parked at a residence with a key still in the ignition.
On June 1 officers were called to a report of an assault with a knife. Dispatch advised the male involved was intoxicated and cut his hand before he fled the residence. After officers arrived at the residence, they learned the male had come home drunk and was already irritated when he grabbed the knife, cut his hand and stabbed the bed.
Officers received a report of a rollover collision on May 31. Officers arrived to see East Pierce Fire and Rescue providing treatment. Officers examined the scene and determined a vehicle was driving over the speed limit and did not stop at a stop sign.
Officers were called May 30 to a report of a car hitting a sign and indecent exposure at Lake Tapps. The reporting party told officers she saw a truck hit a sign, the female driver exit the truck and go swimming without her clothes. Officers first checked out the car, finding a “no parking any time” sign in the gravel.
