The 2016 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials are returning to Eugene, Ore. July 1- 10. The Trials attract more than a thousand athletes to Hayward Field and thousands more will attend as spectators.
The spring season provided a bountiful harvest of honors and accolades for high school teams and individual athletes in the area. In both the Class 3A and Class 2A ranks, accomplishments were many and varied at Enumclaw, Bonney Lake, White River and Sumner. Here’s a look at some of the highlights.
Officers received a call of about a group males in the roadway yelling and making threats on May 31. While en route, dispatch advised the males were getting into two black cars and one white car that were blocking the roadway. When officers arrived on the scene they found a group of eight teenaged males and one teenaged female, recognizing one of the males from an earlier traffic stop.
On May 30 officers were flagged down by a woman whose car was on fire. After putting out the flames with a fire extinguisher, officers learned she heard a loud bang, like a gunshot, and a car quickly driving away.
On May 28 officers responded to a call of sewage being dumped on private property. The reporting party told officers this is not the first occurrence this month, and made similar reports twice in May.
On May 25, officers received a report from a restaurant owner of a highly intoxicated person trying to sell him heroin. Officers contacted the subject, who was barely able to stand.
On May 23 officers received a report of a hit and run. A witness told police they saw a vehicle hit the reporting party’s car and leave the scene. An hour later, police received another call saying the car returned to the scene of the hit and run.
The popular Foothills Trail – a ribbon of pavement interrupted by unimproved sections of bare ground – is presently a topic of conversation on two fronts.
The Washington State Department of Transportation is closing ramps to/from Sumner on SR 410 and SR 167 June 7-10.
Test results detected West Nile virus in mosquitoes from Yakima County for the first time this year. Health officials from the Department of Health are advising people to take action to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and to reduce areas where mosquitoes can breed.
