No one was injured in an early morning fire that damaged four units at an apartment complex in Sumner. Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue were called to the complex on the 7200 block of 142nd Avenue East at 7:12 a.m.
The YMCA and more recently the Target Corporation have announced their locker rooms, dressing rooms and restrooms will now be gender neutral to accommodate transgender individuals. I am firmly for tolerance and inclusivity, but this approach creates a loophole for predators. A man does not have to be dressed as a female, but simply “identify” as female to have unquestioned access to the locker room or bathroom of his choice.
I bought a new phone. The phone I had was dandy, but like all computer devices it is meant to croak at the most rotten time possible.
As one election ends, another beings. The Washington state Presidential Primary election officially started today, May 6, with ballots having been mailed out yesterday to Pierce County voters.

The Sumner High School choir just wrapped up another successful year by sending two Spartans to state. Juniors Janelle Purser and Elly Mark both sang at the state solo and ensemble contest last weekend at Central Washington University. Purser and Mark sang together and separately. For their ensemble, they received an “excellent” rating.

At the beginning of the 2016 school year, every student from the sixth grade and up will be receiving their own Chromebook to use at school and take home.
After Sumner’s loss to Bonney Lake 10-0 yesterday, the Spartans were determined not let the last game of the season get away from them so easily. But while the game was a tough fight, the Panthers came away with a 7-5 win, taking the league championship.
Thursday, May 5, is the National Day of Prayer. Folks will be gathering at noon on the steps of Enumclaw City Hall to pray. People will also be gathering all across the country, even in Washington, D.C., and saying prayers.

While the long-term effects of using marijuana on intelligence are unclear, according to the Washington State Department of Health, the drug can alter brain chemistry and interfere with academic achievement.
