For the past two months all of Pierce County has been reading and talking about Sherman Alexie, featured poet, author and screenwriter of Pierce County READS 2016. We explored the author and his books through a host of special events, ranging from film and book discussions to a stand-up comedy show and a poetry slam.

Need to catch up on Bonney Lake news? This last week was the anniversary of the deaths of Ellis family, who died when a concrete barrier on SR 410 fell onto Angeline Road. Additionally, the White River bridge was closed, but opened three days early, much to many Plateau residents’ enjoyment. Buckley will be installing a new traffic light on the SR 410 and SR 165 intersection, and Bonney Lake residents spotted bears in town.

Lake Tapps is looking rather full with a current elevation of 542 feet. Cascade Water Alliance, who controls the lake levels, plans to resume refilling the lake with water from the White River May 2, and expects the lake to rise to 542.5 feet by May 7.
As of last Friday evening, Enumclaw was cut off from Buckley, Bonney Lake and Sumner by the White River Bridge closure. What was once a 10-minute drive has now increased to 45.
Arbor Day is coming up on April 29, and the State of Washington just visited our City Council meeting to help celebrate Sumner’s 22nd year as a Tree City USA, a designation received through the Arbor Day Foundation.
It was reported around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 20 that a homeowner had spotted four bear in their backyard in the 10600 block of 189th, according to a tweet from the Bonney Lake Police Department.
The State Route 410 White River Bridge between Enumclaw and Buckley will reopen to traffic three days earlier than originally planned following a full closure for permanent repair work. The bridge will reopen at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I have been enjoying the recent warm, sunny days. Largely because I indulged myself in a toy – 1980 motorcycle!
