With the forecast for warm and sunny weather this week, the Washington State Patrol expects an increase in motorcycles and likely, motorcycle collisions. Between 2010 and 2014, in King County, there were 70 fatal collisions and 420 serious injury collisions involving motorcyclists. Last year (2015), 72 motorcyclists died across the state. Six have already perished this year (2016).

On March 19 officers were flagged down by an individual who reported two juveniles were rolling tires onto SR 410. Officers made contact with the teens and explained why they were being stopped.
On March 19 officers responded to a call of found property at a store. When officers arrived at the scene, the reporting party told officers a grungy looking male left some of his personal items on the counter after he paid for his merchandise. Among the items was a bag of meth and a small flashlight.
Officers were dispatched to a fight in progress at a restaurant on March 18. Dispatch reported there was also a hit and run involved and one of the participants was threatening to use his handgun. Officers arrived and exited their vehicle but were unable to determine which of the males had the handgun.
Officers responded to a call of two males fighting in the street on March 18. The combatants separated when officers ordered them to stop. The two males told officers they were business partners and were drinking when they got into a heated argument about their business, which turned into a fight.
Officers were called March 18 to a report of a disorderly female patient at the Franciscan Medical center. Staff told officers the woman was unable to be examined when she became irrational and demanded to drive herself home.
Officers were dispatched to Bonney Lake High School after receiving a report of an assault on a student. Staff reported the victim was struck on the head, possibly with a text book, and lost consciousness.
Operations are underway to extract two patients from Camp Muir, at 10,000′ on Mount Rainier’s south slope. In separate incidents a climbing party of two and a snowshoer were unexpectedly caught out overnight in a winter storm Saturday. The patients, the snowshoer and one member of the climbing party are in stable condition at Camp Muir. The second climber, a 58 year old male from Norway, is believed to be near Gibraltar Ledges.
Last Friday, Qiuordai Lewis Taylor, 18, and Duprea Romon Wilson, 20, were each sentenced to 56 years in prison for a 2014 home-invasion robbery where an accomplice was shot by a Lakewood homeowner and later died. Last week, a jury convicted Taylor and Wilson of manslaughter, assault, robbery, kidnapping and burglary.
All Pierce County Library locations will be closed on March 27, Easter.
Long term care is commonly associated with age. But increasingly younger adults find themselves in need of services following accidents, unexpected illnesses or chronic conditions. One third of residents in long term care facilities are under 65 years. And many more receive long term care services in their own home.
On Friday, James Edward Mitchell, 52, was sentenced to 450 months in prison for the 1993 stabbing death of Linda Robinson. In 2013, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department cold-case detectives matched Mitchell’s DNA to blood collected at the crime scene. Last month, a jury convicted Mitchell of murder in the first degree.
