All seven of the local prep basketball teams that qualified for postseason play survived the first weekend, winning at least one game to keep alive the dream of advancing to regional play and then the Elite Eight. Feb. 10 marked the beginning of Lent for 2016. Lent is the 40-day period that culminates in Easter. In many churches, the first day of Lent is called Ash Wednesday. Area wrestling teams – the Bonney Lake Panthers in particular – fared very well during the West Central District 3A championships. Competing Saturday, it was the Panthers who walked off the mats with the WCD title with 203 team points. Sumner tallied 134.5 to take fourth place and Enumclaw finished with 121.5 and claimed fifth.
This week Cascade began the spring 2016 Lake Tapps Reservoir fill. Cascade halted the release of water from the Reservoir through the powerhouse, and any rain runoff will slowly raise reservoir levels for the remainder of February.
Officers observed a car with no front license plate on Feb. 4. The tabs on the back plate were three years expired. Officers contacted the driver and she said she had driving warrants for her arrest.
Officers observed a vehicle on SR 410 not slow or stop at an intersection with blinking red lights. Officers stopped the car and noticed the trip permit in the rear window was altered. The driver was cited for the infractions and failure to transfer the title of the car and issued infractions for failing to stop at the intersection.
The city of Bonney Lake is scrambling to solve a flooding problem thought to have been solved 20 years ago. What started as a few inches of water on 62nd Street behind Lakeridge Middle School at the end of December turned into a full-on flood by February, submerging 17.5 acres of forest land and roads and impacting residents in the area.
