Pierce County Library System invites teenagers throughout Pierce County to show their creative talents in Our Own Expressions Teen Writing & Art Contest. The 20th annual contest runsJan. 22 through Feb. 29.
Firefighters from East Pierce Fire and Rescue transported six people, including two children, to area hospitals following a three-vehicle collision at 162nd Avenue East and Sumner-Tapps Highway East at Lake Tapps. None of the injuries are serious.
The Montana State University 2015 released it’s fall honor roll list last week. Among the students on the Dean’s Honor Roll were Shaun Baumchen and Kathryn Wire from Bonney Lake and Hunter Bradeen from Sumner.
I was at the Journal of San Juan Island newspaper office last week and noticed one of the top 10 stories from 2015 was the discovery of a dinosaur bone on Sucia Island.

The Bonney Lake Municipal Court will be hosting a passport acceptance and outreach event on March 5, 2016. This is a Saturday when designated court staff will be on site to handle nothing but passports.

Yesterday, Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist charged Austin Richard Moores Nelson, 19, with murder in the first degree, burglary in the first degree and animal cruelty in the first degree for shooting his ex-girlfriend’s mother, Teresa Ryan, to death and killing the family dog.
The Dieringer School District is hosting a quasquicentennial celebration, or in layman terms, its 125 birthday, the evening of Monday, Jan. 28. Among the guests at the celebration will be 1940 and 1950 graduates of the Dieringer School District; retired Dieringer Middle School principle Ruggles Larson; former State Superintendent of Public Instruction Judith Billings; and Randy Dorn, the current state superintendent.
