The Sumner High boys returned from San Diego with a championship in hand. The Spartans made their first appearance in the big Surf ’n’ Slam tourney – a Southern California staple since the early 1990s – and went undefeated in the six-team “Sun” division.
The selections were made by members of the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association. Teams were selected from all classifications, from the large Class 4A schools to the smallest 1B division.
Officers were dispatched on Dec. 24 to a hit and run report. Officers located an abandoned car a short distance away from a Century Link junction box.
Officers were contacted on Dec. 23 about a mysterious car in the reporting party’s back yard. He initially assumed it was a friend’s car who often parks his car at the reporting party’s home, but the friend denied it was his.
Officers were called on Dec. 10 by the owner of a business that buys used trailer batteries. A few days prior, a suspect was identified selling stolen batteries to the business, and the store owner called police when the suspect entered the store.
On Dec. 8 officers were called to investigate the theft of camper batteries. The reporting party told officers they noticed the batteries were gone and the wires were left handing off the camper.
On Dec. 1, the reporting party received mail from an insurance company saying she was denied, although she never applied for insurance. This was the second time she received a letter from an insurance company.
Pierce County Community Connections Aging and Disability Resources is hosting a repeat series of the popular “Oh My Gosh – Now What?” The 6-part series of discussions for families and individuals focuses on the initial journey through Alzheimer’s and other Dementias starts on Jan. 13 at the Active Retirement and Senior Club in Gig Harbor.

The U.S. Forest Service is ringing in the new year by announcing five free fee days for 2016.
The Pierce County Department of Emergency Management (PCDEM) has received $1 million in federal funding for the first phase of upgraded equipment for the Mount Rainier Lahar Warning System.
It took East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters nearly an hour to rescue a horse that had stepped through an ice-covered drainage ditch in a pasture at the 7400 block of 214th Avenue East, near Lake Tapps, on Sunday.
Business owners in Washington are responsible for knowing which taxes to report. To help them, the Washington State Department of Revenue (Revenue) will host a series of free workshops for new and small business owners throughout the state during 2016.
